Remembering & Honoring the Life of Senator Bob Dole
The National Rural Water Association and the Kansas Rural Water Association honor the life and public service of former Senator Robert Joseph Dole. This courageous leader from Russell, Kansas touched the lives of millions of Americans and was a true champion for rural communities. Throughout his long tenure in Congress, Senator Dole served for 27 years on the House and Senate Agriculture Committees.
Senator Dole has earned the respect of a grateful nation. His determination to overcome adversity throughout his life was reflected within his character and unselfish service to others. His sharp wit and deprecating humor, even while serving as the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, reflected his humble beginnings that carried him successfully throughout his journey in life.
Another testament to his service is the World War II Memoria located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. After raising the necessary funding to construct the memorial, Senator Dole would greet the last remaining veterans of the Greatest Generation in what he referred to as his last service to this nation.
In a time when many Americans question Congress, let us hope that more elected officials will follow the example that former Senator Dole practiced each day in his unselfish service to this nation. Rural Water and the entire nation owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the late, great Senator from Kansas – a true champion of rural America.
“Senator Dole was an avid supporter of programs that helped fund Rural Water district development and communities across Kansas and the United States,” said Elmer Ronnebaum, General Manager of the Kansas Rural Water Association. “KRWA met with Senator Dole and his staff on many occasions; he was always generous with his time and pointedly interested in how things were going back home. The Senator’s unabashed support for Rural Water was critical to making life in rural America more livable for millions of people.”
The National Rural Water Association and its state affiliates are honored to call Senator Bob Dole their friend.
