Last summer, in response to lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, MRWA sent out a survey form to over 1000 water supplies in the state asking them to report on their system assets, especially noting equipment they might have available in an emergency. 125 systems responded to MRWA providing valuable information as to just what they might have available. Last Friday, many Missouri locations suffered one of the worst ice storms in recent history with power disrupted in many locations. Using information provided by the 125 available survey forms, MRWA staff was able to locate
emergency generators for several communities. As one city official put it, "we requested emergency generation equipment from state and county officials at 11:00 p.m. on Friday night, as of Sunday afternoon we had heard nothing. Upon calling MRWA on Sunday, we had NINE portable generators located within one and a half hours!"
