Technical Assistance

NRWA helps states solve compliance problems through its Technical Assistance and Training (TA&T) Program. Operated by each state rural water affiliate, the TA&T program combines both formal and classroom training with follow-up, on-site technical assistance to both member and nonmember systems.

Areas covered include Safe Drinking Water Act Compliance issues and public health protection as it relates to drinking water, managerial issues, financial issues, and operational issues.

Legislative Representation

NRWA provides legislative representation and has been successful in asking Congress for increased water and waste loans and grants. The United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) administers the Rural Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program that provides funds for water and waste disposal facilities primarily serving residents in areas with populations of 10,000 or less.

NRWA has worked successfully to get this funding increased so more small and rural utilities would be able to meet the rising costs of complying with strict environmental and health regulations. More water systems are now able to upgrade to provide their customers with the best water in the world.
