DUNCAN, Okla. – Water University was created to recognize recognition and certification for experience and educational achievements in the field of water and wastewater management.                 Today, the water and wastewater industry is more complex than ever before. Economics, increased complexity and a changing society are crafting the water and wastewater systems of tomorrow and the Utility Managers of tomorrow.
                   Operator certification alone is not enough for tomorrow’s manager. The future will demand different skill sets that far exceed operations. The Utility Management Certification documents knowledge and skills in areas of public relations, financial planning, ethics, human resources and others not covered in today’s operator certification programs.
                   Whether, an individual is a current manager or in an entry level position, the Utility Management Certification (UMC) will enhance their career opportunities and document an achievement level as the demand for qualified management personnel increases.
                 As baby boomers retire and a void of qualified management personnel develops, a demand will be created that provides opportunities that cross state lines. The UMC designation is a National Certification that will benefit employer and employee alike.                  State Rural Water Associations, who are the trainers of the industry, and train approximately 100,000 personnel each year will administer the certification program as a satellite of Water University.  This partnership provides an added local state dimension of the value to the certification designation.  The overall goal is to provide recognition that ultimately make certification holders more hirable, more promotable and more valued.  The UMC is a career investment that will reap many returns as the industry raises the bar of management excellence.
