2010 Rural Water Rally a success despite snow

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Even with over three feet of snow on the ground, unplowed streets and closed offices, determined rural water delegates from across the country were able to make the 2010 Rural Water Rally a success.
Attendance for the rally was about a third of previous years. Heavy snowfall in Washington D.C. and airport hubs around the country forced flight cancelations and delays. The weather made travel difficult, but it also provided an opportunity of long, in-depth meetings with elected officials and their staffs.
“The weather cleared a lot of schedules. It wasn’t meeting on top of meeting,” explained Rob Johnson, CEO of the National Rural Water Association. “This year’s visits were some of the longest we’ve ever had.”
Massachusetts Rural Water was one of the first visitors to their new senator’s office, even before he’d finished moving in. Oklahoma Rural Water was able to meet their state senator for over an hour.
States that could not make the rally are planning to make additional visits throughout February and March.
