Taylor J. Whittington, 66, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord

Born Feb. 23, 1943, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Mary Krouse Whittington and Bruce Taylor Whittington. He is survived by his wife, Ann Hollida Whittington, of 41 years; proud father of his son, Bruce R. He was a 1961 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He was a life-long member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Martinsburg and had been chairperson of the visitation committee there. After serving in the U.S. Army (1961-1964), he worked in electric heat/Frigidaire appliance, automotive, and insurance sales positions. From 1991 to 2000, he was the general manager of Hedgesville Public Service District. From 2000 to present, he had held the position of assistant utilities director for the City of Martinsburg. Prior to his death, he had been serving on the board of directors for the West Virginia Rural Water Association and was most recently appointed as the representative from West Virginia to the board of directors of the National Rural Water Association (NRWA). He also was a member of the BPO Elks No. 778, Fraternal Order of the Moose, and The United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT). Because of his love for children and youth, he was very instrumental in helping to save Roush Field in Martinsburg as a green space for the community. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Fizer Jr., officiating. Interment was at Rosedale Cemetery following the service. | ||
