Texas Rural Water prepares for
Hurricane Ike
The Texas Rural Water
Association met with Texas emergency response agencies today as the
new track for Hurricane Ike predict landfall in the Lone Star State.
“We are planning for the worst and
praying for the best, and will be ready to assist our utilities,”
said Tommy Duck, Executive Director of the TRWA.
TRWA is in the process of staging personnel and equipment which will
be moved into more strategic locations once the path of the storm is
determined. As with Gustav,
and assuming minor structural damage, it is projected that the
biggest need will be for generators and staff assistance to restore
system to operational status. The Florida Rural Water Association
has equipment and staff in route to Louisiana that may be diverted
to Texas as power is restored in the state. Texas Rural Water
has an in-state mutual aid program in place and neighboring state
rural water associations are ready to assist after the impact is
evaluated.
